Below is a rough outline about School Councils. If after reading through it you feel you would like to represent the school on our School Council either read "So you want to be a ... representative" or contact Miss Casson in the school office. Recent minutes of school council meetings are available to download at the bottom of this page.

Student Councils are about:

  • Developing a partnership that includes all members of the school community
  • Exploring and experiencing what it means to be a good citizen of your own community
  • Enabling students to take an active part in school decision making
  • Giving students the experience of being respected and listened to
  • Learning how to present a reasoned argument even when this may be unpopular
  • Learning what behaviour is appropriate in different situations
  • Developing peer support for appropriate behaviour

What our aims are

  • To give every student in the school a chance to say what they want, knowing that they will be listened to and that their views will be seriously considered.
  • Giving students direct experience of creating new initiatives, solving problems and achieving their goals.
  • Making sure that students have the right to express their views, and have to their views taken into account, on matters that concern their life in school.

What we have achieved so far

  • New toilets and PE changing rooms
  • Changing of the school uniform
  • Picnic benches outside in the yard
  • Decorating of the ICT suite
  • Water cooler
  • ICT club at lunchtimes to do homework/games
  • Raising money for various charities
  • Liaising with catering staff regarding the healthy meals situation
  • Negotiation of the design of homework planners
